A partial solar eclipse ushers in this Gemini lunar cycle in a very sensational way for those of us in the tristate area. If the sky is clear, the Sun will look as though it has had a bite taken out of it shortly after it rises at 5:24 am. The eclipse will continue until 6:30 am when approximately 70% of the Sun will disappear. Although this looks very dramatic, it is never safe to look at the Sun directly as it can cause damage to your eyes or even blindness. One method often used is to put a pair of binoculars on a tripod and without looking through them , aim at the Sun and then project the image on to a piece of white paper. You can also Google safe ways to view the eclipse which I strongly recommend.
Solar eclipses have amazed humanity for thousands of years. A Solar eclipse occurs when the Moon in its orbit around the Earth passes in front of the Sun, blotting it out either completely or in this case partially. Many cultures found this to be a very frightening event. Ancient astrologers were expected to be able to correctly predict when eclipses would occur or they could be executed. During an eclipse, the Moon, mistress of the night, the primal powers within us and the unknown blots out the Sun, whose life giving energy sustains life on earth and is the master of the day and the rational.
Generally, the effects of an eclipse are felt six weeks before the eclipse and several weeks after, although the energetic reverberations can extend to include a much broader time frame. During the time frame of the eclipse energy, we can expect that the feelings and situations that we bury within ourselves will rise to the surface, which often feels quite uncomfortable.
The solar eclipse sets the stage for this very complex and challenging Gemini New Moon. Rising to meet these challenges will enable us to evolve spiritually at a very accelerated pace. Coming halfway through this year, this New Moon chart revisits some of the major astrological year themes of the year.
Gemini is an air sign- all about thinking, ideas and communication. At its best Gemini is very social, charismatic, witty, clever, and adventurous and loves to learn. The twins really just want to have fun whatever they are doing. Trust me you will never be bored! When Gemini energy is used unwisely, it can be indecisive, inconsistent, superficial, impatient and at worst deceptive.
You can easily imagine that Gemini, who loves fun and games is going to be a very unhappy camper when its thrown into partial darkness, struggling to stay afloat in the watery hidden twelfth house (for those of us in the tri state area.) To add insult to injury, Mercury, the planet of communication and how we think is still retrograde. This Mercury retrograde began on May 29, 2021 and ends on June 22, 2021. Mercury retrograde occurs three times a year for approximately three weeks at a time. This Mercury retrograde will be very potent as Mercury travels retrograde in the sign of Gemini which it rules. Gemini is all about communication, socializing and transportation. Be sure to back up your computers, laptops and phones. Make sure you double and triple check plans and trips, whether they are virtual or actual. If you are depending on Zoom or similar platforms for business or school having a secondary device could save the day. Perhaps car buying or leasing could be put off until Mercury goes direct.
This Mercury retrograde is just one degree away from the Gemini Solar Eclipse New Moon just adding to the confusion. Throw in an applying square to Neptune and you have the perfect recipe for all kinds of misunderstanding with those you love and those you work with. Expect to come to the wrong conclusion and have others do the same with consequences reminiscent of a Shakespearean tragedy/comedy!
Unfortunately, some of those mistaken ideas will affect the national agenda while this country is working on some crucial programs. Infrastructure, although certainly not a juicy topic, is of vital concern to all of America now as so many of our roads and bridges are crumbling. Gemini rules roads, transit system, the Post Office and neighboring countries. I’m concerned that ultimately Congress will be unable to agree on an infrastructure bill although it’s in all of our interest for them to do so.
The elephant in the room that we need to directly confront now is the ongoing Saturn square Uranus transit. Most astrologers feel that the Saturn/Uranus square is the most important astrological aspect of 2021. Since Saturn and Uranus move relatively slowly, its influence will be felt all year. The current Saturn Uranus square is in alignment between 2020 and 2023 which coincides with the CoVid Pandemic. The exact aspects between the planets happen in February, June and December 2021, and it’s close again in October 2022 but not exact.
We get our next exact hit on June 14, 2021 just four days after this New Moon. The first square occurred in mid-February of this year. We saw the freakishly cold Winter Storm Uri that pommeled the southwest and caused so much destruction in Texas. The last square of 2021 will be on Dec.24, 2021.
Saturn is the planet of authority and discipline. Uranus is the planet of revolution and the desire for freedom. Saturn creates while Uranus destroys all that has become stagnant and outdated. To further complicate matters, Saturn is in Aquarius which Uranus rules and so personifies the Aquarian love of freedom and anarchy. Uranus is in Taurus, a very conservative stability loving sign. Is your head spinning yet? Just imagine two heavyweight fighters with serious handicaps fighting it out and you will get a great idea of how this energy feels!
When we put all the pieces together of this action packed and complex New Moon chart, we can expect all kinds of mind boggling craziness, some of which may seem comical at times. More UFO secrets may emerge, where Corona Virus actually came from and crypto currency secrets all seem like likely topics that the media will spend time reporting. A potential serious national security issue is the ongoing business of international cyber attacks on our infrastructure. These attacks certainly fit in well with all of the major themes of this Gemini Solar Eclipse New Moon chart.
In our personal life, this can be a time of confusion and uncertainty. We are still dealing with the fallout of the global pandemic. Our work and social lives are very different than they were pre pandemic. This New Moon will bring up all of our issues concerning how we are connected to the world in all the myriad ways possible. Institutions, ideas, paradigms that we have taken for granted may change so much that they will seem unrecognizable. The people in our lives may act in ways that shock us. Our friends, families and lovers will be experiencing the same energies and will be responding to these changes as well, potentially causing tension, misunderstanding and major miscommunication. Secrets may surface now with dramatic consequences.
So, what do we do now that we know this? I turned once again to the “Dreams of Gaia Tarot” by Ravynne Phelan, my favorite deck of the 21st century! I asked the cards, what do we need to know or do to flow harmoniously with the energies of this potent New Moon and manifest its most positive possible potential?
