Want to Know the Energies You Can Expect from This New Moon?

A Special Message About The Energies of the Current New Moon From Reverend Pauline Southard

The Gemini New Moon of June 18, 2023 arrives just after midnight on Sunday encouraging us to just stay home and chill. The usually gregarious twins feel weighted down by all the dense energy at the bottom of this New Moon chart. Perhaps a glass of wine and a clever streaming movie will be our best option tonight.

Gemini is the first of the Air signs, Libra and Aquarius comprise the other two members of the trio. The Air signs symbolize the intellectual aspects of life, including ideas, communication, the mind and the process of thinking.

As the first of the Air signs, Gemini has the most innocent and almost childlike feeling of all the air signs. Pure Gemini energy tends to be interested in a huge range of subjects, although often they are content to just graze the surface rather than taking any deep dives. Gemini will often love the idea that an experience or object represents rather than the actual thing itself. This is why they so often lose interest quite quickly in something that they claim is really important to them.

Castor and Pollux are the two twins that comprise the constellation of Gemini. Castor was mortal and Pollux immortal. They were incredibly close. When Castor was killed in battle, Pollux wished he was mortal as well, as he didn’t want to live without his brother. Zeus, the Greek God took pity on him, made both twins immortal and created the constellation Gemini to forever memorialize their brotherly love. This accounts for Gemini’s love of family and friends as well as their natural gregariousness.

At its best, Gemini is smart, enthusiastic, curious, quick, flexible and funny.

When Gemini energy is used unproductively it can be impatient, nervous, restless and superficial.

Famous Gemini natives include: Anne Frank, Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Jewel, Heidi Klum and the Olsen twins.

I asked one of my favorite people on the planet what it was like to be a Gemini and he told me that he felt that he had an infinite number of people inside him.  He often experienced himself as a chameleon, changing into the most appropriate persona depending on who he was currently with. This definitely explains the confusion that people often feel when dealing with those born under this most intriguing sign.

Overall, this lunar cycle presents us with its share of contradictions. This typically social Gemini New Moon arrives in the fourth house of the chart for those of us who live on the east coast of the USA. Cancer, the homebody who rules the fourth house in the natural astrology wheel is content to stay home with just their family around them, leading to a sense of feeling conflicted about what we wish to do. Our partners are likely to have their own ideas as well. We may ultimately feel restless, restive and dissatisfied. It would be best to make sure we really understand what the people around us are saying and even more important, what they actually mean. This tendency for confusion both humorous and deadly serious will be magnified as this New Moon squares Neptune.

Read on another level, the New Moon square Neptune, brings us the possibility of overly wet weather and flooding just before and during the beginning of this lunar cycle. Make sure to keep your umbrella handy!

Nationally, we can expect to see lots of headlines regarding children’s health care and who has the right to make essential life choices for children. On an even more fundamental level we will hear discussions about who really deserves to call themselves a parent.

There are two significant planetary aspects that will be helpful to be aware of during this lunar cycle. The first is very positive; the second we will need to steer clear of.

First, the Jupiter/Saturn sextile that will occur during this New Moon and will be in effect for the next seven to ten days after the New Moon will enable us to work on clarifying our goals and planning the specific steps to achieve them. It’s a wonderful time to employ all kinds of manifestation work, as it will be particularly effective now. My all-time favorite manifestation method are affirmations, which are amazingly successful (when worded properly) and free! You simply need to repeat them consistently twice a day. For more information, just get in touch with me. (karmickat@aol.com)

Second, as Mars squares Uranus from June 24, 2023 until June 27, 2023 tensions will start to rise. Expect people to become short tempered and angry both in our personal lives and in events that will make headlines. Remembering to center and ground ourselves each morning and sending love and light to our day and all the events and people in it will really help. It may be best to delay plans during this timeframe or have any crucial conversations.

Seeking guidance, I turned to The Sabian Oracle, a mix of astrology and clairvoyance which once again offered up some wonderful insight. Diana E. Roche who wrote my favorite book on the Sabian Symbols, “The Sabian Symbols: A Screen of Prophecy,” writes that the vision for this New Moon, “A gypsy coming out of the forest” symbolizes the emergence of selfhood and a certain childlike but optimistic readiness for new experience and adventure. Innocence, optimism and enthusiasm are three of the most positive Gemini qualities. Remembering to access our own inner child’s joy and curiosity will certainly enable us to have a very happy Gemini lunar cycle that will reinvigorate and refresh us.

Looking for further insight, I choose to pull a card from one of my favorite new decks whose images resonate perfectly with the energy of this Gemini New Moon at its best. The Tarot of Mystical Moments was created by Catrin Welz-Stein, an incredibly talented German artist. In describing her process she says, “In my art, I blur the lines between imagination and reality, while exploring womanhood in many different ways. I like to give my images a vintage, ethereal feel. During the creative process, I scan old paintings, photographs and illustrations, making sure they are in the public domain. I work digitally and transform the scans by first tearing them apart. They are like puzzle pieces that I work together, until they reveal a whole new meaning and tell an unknown story.” I really love her take on the classic Rider – Waite deck!

After preparing for my monthly New Moon reading, I asked the cards, “What do we need to know or do to flow harmoniously with the energies of this Gemini New Moon so that we can manifest its most positive possible potential?”

I was amused to see the King of Swords make his appearance as I shuffled the deck as he is SO perfect for this lunar cycle. Most obviously, the King of Swords is a member of the Suit of Swords and Swords represent the air element. Gemini is an air sign as well. I love this synchronicity which gives us the same element for Gemini and the tarot card for the month.

This King of Swords counsels us to embrace logic and to keep our thinking clear and sharp. This somewhat convoluted New Moon will tempt us toward fuzzy thinking and believing what we would like to be true is true rather than looking at the actual facts both in our personal lives as well as in the larger world.

Journaling will be a great way to help us to figure it all out at this New Moon, since Mercury, the planet associated with Gemini (its ruler) is in Gemini at the time of this New Moon. Mercury is known as the messenger of the gods. It is the planet of communication and expression. Writing is a quintessential Gemini/Mercury activity.

We can choose a quiet space, light some white candles and then ground and center ourselves. We can do some deep breathing to relax and then clear our chakras. Opening our journals, we can use violet ink to write down the questions we need answering. We can then either ask our guides or our higher selves what we need to know and then write down the first information we get without thinking about whether it makes sense. This method has been an eye opener for me when I am seeking guidance.

Ms. Catrin Welz-Stein’s depicts her King of Swords as a Samurai master, whose sword represents his intellectual power.  The accompanying guidebook tells us that he can be confronted with any problem and be able to keep a clear logical mind. The bird’s eye reflects his ability to react quickly. The blue color that surrounds him symbolizes the breath of the King’s knowledge. I definitely wouldn’t want to mess with him!

Traditionally I put two or three special crystals into the Manifestation Grid that help us to work with the astrological energies of the current New Moon. These additional crystals will energize the Grid and make it even more effective since I choose crystals that reflect the energy of the totality of the chart, not just the sign that the New Moon is in. I would encourage you to work with them as well since they are perfect for this lunar cycle. I love the energy of both of these crystals and I hope that you will enjoy them as well.

The gentle calming Blue Calcite crystal is a stone of the mind, exactly what we need for the grid this month!  It will help us to focus our thoughts and enable us to think more clearly so that we may discern what is true more easily. It gives us the additional gift of increasing our physical energy and vitality.

The magical indigo Iolite is a wonderful crystal for our grid this month as it will help us to keep a clear mind. Iolite strengthens the connection between the third eye and the heart, helping to heal old wounds and open the intuition.

I have been so grateful for the overwhelming positive response to the Manifestation Grid that I started ten years ago. I love seeing people put their requests into the grid and hearing about all the positive results so many of you have had. Now it is possible to either use the Manifestation Grid in person when you come in to Karma or you may continue to put your requests into the Grid at a distance as you have been doing during the time that the store was closed.

Archangel Metatron, my primary guide had channeled this method to help you to put your requests in remotely:

#1- Please write your intentions on a piece of paper with the date, feeling love in your heart as you do OR for ANY positive purpose whatsoever!

#2- Visualize yourself accomplishing your desire, feeling love in your heart as you do so.

#3- Using the picture on the Karma website, intend to put your request into the grid just as you would if you were in the store. Archangel Metatron has told me that he will help you to make that happen. You do NOT need to be good at visualizing! Every morning I will be charging the Grid with long distance Reiki and other powerful energies to help make your wishes come true.

#4- When you feel that the process is complete you may either dispose of the paper or put it on your altar, refrigerator or paste it into your journal. It is helpful but not necessary to spend a few minutes every day for the next thirty days repeating Step 3. Your intentions will be active in the Grid for the next 30 days. !

I am so happy that I am now back at A Time for Karma doing readings in person on Saturdays. Reading for you over the last 24 years here at Karma has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Please call either A Time for Karma at (516) 442-3200 or you may call me directly at (516) 445-4242 to schedule your reading.

I will leave you now with a short but sweet poem, “Remembering I am a Gemini” by Caren Krutsinger that sums up the essence of this lunar cycle.

“I wanted to be a tiger

but I was a bunny

as a Gemini, godmother said

you are a chameleon

you can change from stripes to polka dots

I roared”

Wishing you a Gemini lunar cycle filled with wonderful new discoveries and charming encounters!

Last Month's New Moon Message

The Taurus New Moon of May 19, 2023 arrives just before noon on Friday for those of us on the east coast of the USA. We are looking forward to having some fun on this spring weekend and this New Moon has the potential to deliver!

Taurus is the first of the Earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn comprise the other two members of the trio. The Earth signs symbolize the physical aspects of life, including money, prosperity, health and of course Mother Earth herself.

As the first of the Earth signs, Taurus has the most primal connection to this element. Taurus experiences life through their senses most directly. They love to be massaged and caressed (by the right person!), the delicious flavors of fine food and wine, the pleasures of gardening and the joy of being in nature.

The Bull that symbolizes Taurus represents strength, tenacity, and power. The bull characterizes the sign’s slow and steady perseverance. The astrology of the Taurus Bull is linked to the agriculture calendar signifying spring, a season of rebirth. Seen as a symbol of wealth and abundance, the bull was often sacrificed during ancient rituals by people hoping to secure the gods’ goodwill, according to Garth C. Clifford, whose eclectic World Bird site is definitely worth a look.

Adding dimension and depth to the Taurus paradigm is its ruler Venus. Venus loves beauty and cares deeply about design and aesthetics. There are so many famous Taurus artists and musicians! Taurus natives make wonderful singers and musicians.

Recently, I read for a Taurus who had been frustrated for decades because she so wanted to create music but simply couldn’t. When I tapped into her energy field, I saw that she had an amazing past life as an incredibly successful musician, but in this life she had decided before she incarnated to focus on other life goals.

This New Moon cycle presents us with an opportunity to see the lovely planet Venus. Since Venus looks like the brightest star in the sky, you will not need binoculars or a telescope. On a clear night, shortly after sunset, scan the western sky looking for brilliant twinkly Venus. Intend to connect with her energy and notice what you see/sense/feel/know.

At its best, Taurus is practical, positive, sensual, reliable and patient. Taurus is incredibly creative. One of my Taurus friends makes beautiful crystal jewelry, which showcases the natural Taurean ability to intuitively understand color, design harmony along with the incredible patience it obviously took to make her beautiful pieces. Best of all, her jewelry was created to use the crystals to help heal. The Taurus paradigm manifested perfectly in a beautiful amber and tree agate bracelet- beautiful and practical!

When Taurean energy is used unproductively it can be stubborn, close minded, overly materialistic, and rigid with a tendency to get stuck in a rut.

Famous Taurus natives include: Queen Elizabeth II, Adele, George Clooney, Lizzo, Mark Zuckerberg and Kelly Clarkson.

This lunar cycle will provide us with a much needed break from the action of the very intense eclipse season we experienced during the last cycle. Mercury goes direct just a few days before this New Moon on May 14, 2023 so we are ready now to move ahead with all the plans we’ve put on hold.

We will be feeling the desire to be out and about in the world, celebrating and socializing as almost all the planets including the Sun and Moon are on the upper hemisphere of this New Moon chart.

With the New Moon in the 10th house of the chart when it’s set for the east coast of the USA, it’s a great time to make our work spaces whether at home or in a formal workplace comfortable and cozy. Incorporating some traditional Chinese Feng Shui techniques to harmonize the flow of energy in our work areas will definitely help us to feel relaxed and happy, enabling us to be so much more productive.  Feng Shui that Makes Sense: Easy Ways to Create a Home that FEELS as good as it Looks by Cathleen McCandless is an updated and very practical guide to this ancient art.

Forest bathing or forest therapy is another wonderful way to make the best of Taurus energy.   The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs tells us that, “Forest therapy is based on forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, a Japanese practice that has garnered attention for its ability to immerse people into their natural environment. It helps people take a deep breath and rediscover our true essence, to remember our purpose and how we can serve the world. By immersing ourselves in nature and engaging our senses, we can reap the many benefits of forest therapy such as improved immune function, cardiovascular and respiratory health, and reduced stress and depression.  However, these benefits are simply a byproduct of the deeper healing that occurs when we re-establish a connection with the natural world around us.”

We are fortunate to have Linda Lombardo, a certified life coach & forest therapy guide available for both public and private forest bathing and nature walk events on Long Island. Although I have not connected with her yet, I am certainly looking forward to participating in her events. For more information and her schedule, check out her website, Wild Heart Nature Connection – https://www.wildheartnatureconnection.com

Two dates during this lunar cycle stand out as having the potential to offer us some lovely energetic gifts if we are receptive. On Friday, June 2, 2023, Venus will trine Neptune, a truly beautiful and harmonious aspect that can greatly assist us in all of our spiritual endeavors. The Full Moon on June 3, 2023 will definitely super charge the energetics of this aspect. Since this aspect is in play all weekend, definitely take the time to check it out!

My second date, Sunday, June 11, 2023 presents us with a very nicely energetically balanced day, perfect for all kinds of fun with family and friends. Its special gift is the entrance of Mercury into Gemini, the sign that it rules. Mercury in Gemini will help us to clear the residue of all that stagnant Earth energy that has been present in the background during this lunar cycle, enabling us to think much more clearly.

We have finally reached the downside of this lunar cycle. Although it really is like a beautiful Spring day with a gorgeous deep blue sky, there are some clouds sitting on the horizon that could cause trouble if we do not navigate around them, but they can be avoided!

A deeper dive into this New Moon chart shows that there is an abundance of planets in the Earth element and in the fixed mode. This will cause a tendency towards stubborn behavior because the possibility of change seems like it will only make things worse. We can expect to see this played out nationally as well as in our workplaces. People will double and triple down, refusing to make any concessions that would benefit the greater good.

Nationally, this is particularly concerning as right now there are so many truly crucial issues that require immediate action from the federal government. Just a few minutes spent browsing the national news will highlight the seriousness and scope of the national challenges we face as a country.

Unfortunately, there is the real potential with this lunar cycle for both political parties and their leaders to stick to their positions and refuse to agree on any sort of compromise.

However, I am especially concerned about the possibility of resolving the pending national debt ceiling crisis that is looming- a very Taurus/Venus issue that does not seem to get a lot of attention but will cause a tremendous amount of harm to all of us if it doesn’t get resolved.

The debt limit is the total amount of money that the United States government is authorized to borrow to meet its existing legal obligations, including Social Security and Medicare benefits, military salaries, interest on the national debt, tax refunds, and other payments.

The debt limit does not authorize new spending commitments. It simply allows the government to finance existing legal obligations that Congresses and presidents of both parties have made in the past.

Failing to increase the debt limit would have catastrophic economic consequences. It would cause the government to default on its legal obligations – an unprecedented event in American history. That would precipitate another financial crisis and threaten the jobs and savings of everyday Americans – putting the United States right back in a deep economic hole. Economists have warned that defaulting on the debt could cause financial Armageddon.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen issued another warning recently about the United States running out of money to pay for its financial obligations if Congress has not raised or suspended the debt limit by early next month, potentially defaulting as soon as June 1.

There needs to be serious talks about how to resolve this issue so we don’t sabotage ourselves by tanking the economy. Unfortunately, this energy is not conducive for meaningful progress. Although the USA have never failed to meet its financial obligations before, there is a real possibility of that happening this time.

At work, people will tend to insist there is only one way to do things- their way! This will lead to lots of resentment and aggravation.

Although, this is a primarily positive happy productive lunar cycle, these clouds may cast deep shadows that make us focus on the negative energy rather than the predominantly sunny astrological weather!

Seeking guidance, I turned to The Sabian Oracle, a mix of astrology and clairvoyance which once again offered up some wonderful insight. Diana E. Roche who wrote my favorite book on the Sabian Symbols, “The Sabian Symbols: A Screen of Prophecy,” writes that the vision for this New Moon, “Two Cobblers working at a table,” alludes to brainstorming while working on a project together. The advice here is to use reason, discussion and co-operative problem- solving to create solutions where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. At its best, this symbol represents good judgement, objective thinking and the willingness to look at all sides of an issue.

With this advice going through my mind, I decided to consult my all-time favorite deck of the last several years, the “Dreams of Gaia Tarot” by Ravynne Phalen for further insight. Surely a perfect deck for an Earth Element New Moon!

After preparing for my monthly New Moon reading, I asked the cards, “What do we need to know or do to flow harmoniously with the energies of this Taurus New Moon so that we can manifest its most positive possible potential?”

Over the last ten years that I have been writing this column, I have found that the card I pull for the upcoming lunar cycle has a clear and usually synchronistic connection to that New Moon. Often, the element for the card and the element for the sign the New Moon is in are the same. So, I was initially puzzled when the Two of Air presented itself to me, as it didn’t seem to have any obvious connection to this earthy Taurus New Moon. However, when I read Ms. Phelan’s notes about  her Two of Air card, I immediately understood why this is the perfect card for this lunar cycle.

Ms. Phelan’s The Two of Air card represents the idea of duality vs. polarity. She sees duality as two opposing forces coming together to create a state of chaos. She interprets the duality principle as the necessity of one force always being better than the other, inevitably leading to a war like state of conflict.

Conversely, for her the polarity principle is the theory that two opposing forces exist in all things within the universe, not as separate but competing forces but as complementary opposing aspects of a singular whole. In this theory, both forces are required since one will not exist without the other.

She adds, “Duality is black and white. Polarity is the entire spectrum. Duality divides and competes. Polarity unites and accepts. The Two of Air offers a choice between two paths: conflict vs. peace.” She cautions specifically against being rigid and inflexible, instead of opening our hearts and minds.

The Two of Air offers us flawless advice for how to maximize the positive and minimize the challenges of this lunar cycle. Even better, it reiterates and validates the guidance that the Sabian Symbol offers us.

Lastly, this card is an encouraging reminder that the Sun will enter Gemini on May 21, 2023 bringing some much needed air into the energetic mix. The absence of the air element in this New Moon chart will play a large part in the sense of stuck and stagnant energy we will be experiencing. The Sun in Gemini will provide a push in the right direction!

Petrified Wood will be a wonderful ally to connect with now. I was very happy to see some wonderful pieces at Karma. The Crystal Council tells is that Petrified Wood, which is technically a fossil and a crystal, comes from the trunks and branches of ancient trees. These fossilized specimens have had their chemical body replaced by another mineral over time. This occurred during the Mesozoic Era and Paleozoic Era 250-66 million years ago.

As it was once alive, petrified wood holds a unique vibration between the physical and spiritual worlds. So perfect for our grid this month as trees truly are the essence of the living breathing aspect of the earth element.

Petrified Wood will enable us to connect with the best of Taurus energy, assisting us to stay grounded and centered, safe and secure. As a stone of transformation, it will give us the strength to release old outmoded ways of thinking and doing. Exactly what we need to break through that old stagnant energy that will be present now and move fully into the most positive aspects of this New Moon.

The beautiful and soothing Blue Aragonite crystal is attuned to the Earth Goddess, although I definitely feel its connection to the element of air when I meditate with it. Definitely what we need right now!

Aragonite is a stabilizing stone that centers and grounds physical energy. It provides insight into the causes of problems and situations. Aragonite aids concentration and encourages tolerance and mental flexibility.

I have been so grateful for the overwhelming positive response to the Manifestation Grid that I started ten years ago. I love seeing people put their requests into the grid and hearing about all the positive results so many of you have had. I will leave you now with Emily Dickenson’s poem, “There is Another Sky.” This poem speaks to me of the perfect magical Taurus Spring day spent in nature- a place we could manifest during this lunar cycle!

There is another sky,

Ever serene and fair,

And there is another sunshine,

Though it be darkness there;

Never mind faded forests, Austin,

Never mind silent fields –

Here is a little forest,

Whose leaf is ever green;

Here is a brighter garden,

Where not a frost has been;

In its unfading flowers

I hear the bright bee hum:

Prithee, my brother,

Into my garden come!

Wishing you a Taurus lunar cycle filled with lovely Spring days and the best of Taurean earthly delights!

Full Moon

New Moon Manifestation Ritual

During the new moon phase the moon goes from smaller to bigger so it is a great time to manifest anything you would like to increase.

Hand write a list of what you wish to manifest on a piece of paper. Be very specific!

Go outside and read your wishes aloud to the moon. Afterward thank the moon and the universe for listening.

Fold your paper and keep it in a safe and prominent place, such as your altar. Read your list daily, outside if possible, thanking the moon and the universe every time.

Do this every day until the full moon.
When the moon is full, read your list one final time, then burn it in the flame of a candle, sending it up to the universe.

Trust and know that your wishes will be manifested at the perfect time and in the perfect way for you.

Information papers for this ritual as well as for many items in our store are available free of charge every day at Karma!
